From the start of devising, it seemed like something easy to put together, however it resulted in a lot of planning and organisation. For one, scheduling is the key to time management. This is a key component when it comes to putting something together as it allowed me to learn how to keep the ball rolling and made sure everyone stayed connected and completed their tasks. So to solve this problem, we set two people to be in charge of making sure everyone in the group came in on time. Zulaiha and I were in charge of this. We asked the other group members constantly where they were and if they completed the work before the deadline on the research of their character and if lines were learnt. There were some instances where some came late, with some others where it was just unacceptable to not attend class for devising.
Apart from time management, there were also a few implications where I was unable to attend due to my recovery from my operation where the script had to be re written without my character completely. This effected my group heavily as they had to adapt a script where my lines were referred to others and that the sequence of some of the fight scenes had to either be removed, some added and altered to suit the needs to the actors now on stage and to feed the story line well. For example, my lunge at Jireh at the beginning when we found out that he might have been the one who put us all in that room. However, although I was absent, the group constantly updated me on what was going on and what I needed to do to help the group as much as I could. I was sent the new script and notes based around it and helped discussed points that worked and did not work with certain parts of the performance.
But thankfully in the final week of the actual showcase of the performance on the School's tour, I was able to hop back in to role and everything ran smoothly on the day on visiting the school. Although the others were used to their new script, we had a couple of hours to include me back in and because the others still had the back up script, it only took a few hours to perform the original script, assisted with a few alterations to the lunge scene especially because of my leg operation and the still images of searching for a way out where I decided not to do any lifting of anyone as it could have made my injury worse. I was briefed about the workshop that would be taking place after the performance that we would do warm up games such as 'Splat' and an obstacle game. I was informed to lead the 'Splat' game as it was a game I already had knowledge of the most and others already had the whole workshop set out and left a space for me in this activity. This was all due to the fact that I was not able to partake in the planning,. I also got notified that some group members were not getting along with others which caused wasted time and unnecessary arguments during the process of when I was absent.
Devising overall was a good experience as I had learnt the key aspects of putting a production together and that research and deadlines were key when putting a show on. Although at some points, it could have been improved especially during rehearsal as a lot of time was wasted and at some occasions, attendance was not the best from so members of our group, we still managed to pull through. This was because of teamwork where we all, in the end, supported one another throughout the process and that we all put full effort when it came to the final weeks before the showcase at the schools considering we had Peter Pan alongside this project too.
